Q & A with Louise Christensen, owner and creator of Worn Out Wares
Q. How did Worn Out Wares get started?
A. Six and a half years ago my eldest daughter, Anna,
an excellent florist, suggested that we should go into
business together. I thought we needed to do more than
just flowers so I combined all of my passions (hence the
diversity of the shop) and in February 2004 we opened
Worn Out Wares.
Q. Where did the name Worn Out Wares come from?
A. I wanted a name that could be used to describe more than one facet of the business without sounding too fussy or pretentious. Worn Out Wares – used and old, something
you could wear out – fashion new or old, WOW FLOWERS.
Q. Where did the inspiration for Worn Out Wares come from?
A. I have always been a lover of old things, looking to combine them with new to give
them a fresh feel, and having had a café (pre-children) I wanted to design a business
that would give customers an experience beyond what they have been used to.
Q. How was the look and style of the shop determined?
A. That was easy, the shop is simply everything I love “thrown together” - flowers, food, art, vintage/new homewares and fashion - to create a look that is both unique and interesting: a customer once described it as an “aesthetic adventure.”
